Half Timber & Castillo ~ Summer Sampler 2018
Happy July everyone! We are in the middle of summer here and today I have two blocks to share. Block 8 is called Castillo. It is inspired by the Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, Florida. I designed this block after visiting over Spring Break and touring while my kids earned their Junior Ranger badges. It is such an interesting structure, full of history.
The Castillo block is modeled after the aerial view of the fort. This block is foundation paper pieced. I found it especially helpful to write the colors down on the paper before starting the paper piecing process.
Our family spent the last week in northern Michigan celebrating my husband's 40th birthday! In the race to get ready to leave town (coupled with my role as mom-taxi, shuttling the kids to their various summer-fun activities) I didn't get a chance to post about block 7.
Half Timber was designed by Lee Heinrich of Freshly Pieced. Lee's block design is inspired by German architecture. I love this block and could see it repeating for an entire quilt.
I am having so much fun with these travel inspired blocks. I love looking at the map to see all the places we have been. There really is inspiration all around us!
