Mission Beach & Summer Kites
I’m a bit late on posting a few of our past Summer Sampler 2019 blocks. I hope you will forgive me, as we’ve been working in all our free time to test and perfect the layout patterns and have my finished quilt ready to show you in a couple of weeks. Check out my Instagram for a couple sneak peeks!
Both of the blocks I’m sharing today are designed by one of my cohosts, Katie Blakesley. In week 18, we learned all about sewing hourglass blocks with Mission Beach. I love Katie’s design, which she modeled after an aerial view of lifeguard towers!
Week 20 brought us Katie’s block design for half rectangle triangles (HRT), Summer Kites. I was an early pattern tester of this block and an example of what happens when you don’t trim your HRTs properly. You lose those points when they become diamond units! Don’t be me. I didn’t redo my block though, because I wanted to get it sewn into my finished quilt top as I worked ahead. Definitely check out the trimming diagrams in Katie’s pattern, and her blog post today on HRT tips!
It’s not too late to join in the fun with us this summer. (It’s actually never too late!) . When you sign up, you will immediately receive all the block patterns to date. For the late comers, I’d recommend starting with the current week’s block and then making the past blocks in your spare time. That way you can immediately join in the fun with everyone on Instagram and in the private Facebook group.
