Sparkler
It’s 4th of July week here in the United States, when so many will celebrate our nation’s independence with fireworks…so it is only appropriate that this week’s block is name Sparkler! Rather than a piecing technique, this week Yvonne Fuchs of Quilting Jetgirl is teaching us a design technique called Transparency.
This week’s block uses the piecing technique we covered in Week 5 with Rope Twist, foundation paper piecing. If you are not familiar with FPP and have not made your Rope Twist block, do make that block first. This block also has some tricky FPP angles. I highly recommend reading Lee’s post about how to successfully piece these harder angles. This link is also featured in this week’s pattern.
My other tip is when sewing your templates together, fold back the template 1/4” to make sure your seams line up before pinning and stitching together.
I changed up my block a bit from the mockup, including using my Zen Gray replacement as my background rather than white. I can’t wait to see how everyone plays with color with their Sparkler blocks!
It’s not too late to join in the fun with us this summer. (It’s actually never too late!) . When you sign up, you will immediately receive all the block patterns to date.
For the late comers, I’d recommend starting with the current week’s block and then making the past blocks in your spare time. That way you can immediately join in the fun with everyone on Instagram and in the private Facebook group.
