Patchwork Progress

Today I sewed the top of the Amy Butler patchwork throw.  I've never sewn anything using this technique.  It's also the biggest quilt I've made....I think I'm a glutton for punishment.  :-)  The instructions had me place all the pieces on a piece of muslin, safety pin them down, and then sew them.  Honestly, I'm not too crazy about the approach.  I'm sure the directions are that way because it's not a uniform design, but I feel like there is no way to sew it and have it be completely flat when you are done.  I'm hoping that doesn't really matter once I stretch, baste and quilt it.
