Nautical ~ A Finished Baby Quilt
This week I checked off my first quilt finish of the school year. It's also my first quilt pieced on my Featherweight! I started this Nautical quilt the week the kids went back to school. The Nautical quilt pattern is by Allison at Cluck Cluck Sew, and was a breeze to make. There are 10 different blocks, and I made each set of blocks in groups, scrappy style.
It was fun to work in these primary colors. Usually I get tempted into including the entire rainbow - it's a weakness! I forget how much I enjoy quilts made from limited palettes.
I quilted this one in a diagonal crosshatch using my walking foot and my BERNINA 750QE. The lines are maybe a bit over an inch apart. I used the metal guide that can go through the back hole of the walking foot to maintain a consistent width.
When I quilt straight lines, I always start in the middle and work my way to the right. Once the first half of the quilt is finished, I turn it around and then start again in the middle, working my way to the right again. On this quilt, I stitched all my lines in the first diagonal direction, then all my lines in the opposite diagonal direction. No puckering or folding - so I think it was a successful plan!
For the backing I used a whale print from the Message in a Bottle collection. Aren't they so cute? The finished crib quilt measures 42" x 56", perfect for a baby or playmat!
