Fresh Spool Series ~ Scrappy Spool Block Pattern
Happy Monday everyone! Last month when I shared my spool pattern for the Good Neighbors Pincushion party, I started to get the itch to make more (and bigger) spool blocks. I get a lot of emails about my spool block mini quilt that I made back in 2011. At that time, I was just learning paper piecing and drew up the block patterns as a test for myself. I didn't save them or plan on publishing them.
I came up with some paper pieced block designs that I thought would be fun to share over the next 5 weeks. All of these blocks are 6" x 6" finished, so larger than the pincushion block I posted last month. They are all Foundation Paper Pieced. If you are new to the technique, I have a tutorial right here on my blog.
For week one, I'm revisiting the spool block from the Good Neighbors Pin Cushion party. I resized this block to finish out at a 6" x 6" square. I chose an essex linen for the background and a scrappy assortment of oranges for my spool.
It is a bit Halloweeny without even trying. :)
You can download your own copy of the 6" x 6" Scrappy Spool Quilt Block Pattern by clicking on the image below, or this link. As with all paper piecing patterns, be sure to print this pattern at "100%" or "Actual Size", and check the 1" scale icon before starting.
I hope you enjoy piecing spool blocks with me over the next several weeks!
I also have a bit of sponsor news to share with you today. I'm sad to say that two of my wonderful sponsors are closing up shop due to other opportunities.
Dragonfly Fabrics - Store Closing Sale
I hope you will check out the deals and wish them both the best with their future endeavors.
