Summer Sampler Series 10th Anniversary
It’s hard to believe, but 2021 is the 10th Anniversary of the very first Summer Sampler Series Quilt Along. In 2011, Katie, Lee and I met through an email-accident/misunderstanding and decided to host a skill building quilt along on our blogs. The blocks were all selected from Barbara Brackman’s historical reference book The Encyclopedia Of Pieced Quilt Patterns, with a variety of skills to learn. This quilt along was my first experience with Foundation Paper Piecing…and we created a lot of successful FPPers along the way!
Over the last 10 years, a lot of things have evolved…including each of our websites. We’ve moved platforms and hosts, and links are probably broken here and there. We decided this was the perfect opportunity to revisit these block patterns! In honor of the Summer Sampler Series Quilt Along 10th anniversary, Katie, Lee and I are re-featuring the original 12 Summer Sampler blocks over the next 12 weeks. We will each be posting either our tutorial, or a link to each other’s tutorial, every Wednesday beginning February 17th.
If you missed the Summer Sampler the first time around, I hope you will join in this time! Best of all, the online blog based patterns are free. If you would like printable versions, you can purchase a PDF in Lee’s shop.
This is a pretty casual quilt along. Unlike our current annual Summer Samplers, we won’t be providing finishing directions or a private Facebook group. But we do have some fabric estimates for you below.
Fabric Requirements: We estimate that each 12-1/2” (unfinished) quilt block will take the equivalent of a fat quarter to make; three yards of fabric should do it - a bit more if you want room for error. I used Art Gallery’s solids for my blocks. Believe it or not, at the time, these were all the available colors!
