Summer Sampler 2019 ~ A Finished Quilt
It’s finished! My 2019 Summer Sampler Quilt! Wow, what a season this has been. We have learned SO MUCH in this quilt along: precision piecing, half square triangles, improvisational piecing, nesting seams, foundation paper piecing, curves, transparency, tiny piecing, inset pieced circles, partial seams, stripes and curves, fussy cutting, parallelograms/diamonds, improv curves, using color, equilateral triangles, half hexagons, hourglasses, flying geese, half square rectangles, AND y-seams! WOW! I’d say that’s a lot of bang for the buck.
If you remember the launch of the quilt along, we designed two layouts for these quilt blocks: diamonds or curves. I finished my quilt using the curved layout. I mentioned in the quilt along Facebook group, this is the more challenging of the two layouts. Just like with the blocks this year, go in expecting to have a learning experience. Make a TEST BLOCK from scrap fabric before committing. And please, please, please….read the directions and diagrams carefully before starting. And also, be sure to use the provided cutting layout diagram to make the correct use out of your fabric.
I quilted mine in a free motion, meandering pattern. I used navy Aurifil thread in my navy background areas, and a white Aurifil thread in my pieced block and gray areas. This took a bit of extra time, as I had to change thread and start/stop more, but I’m glad I went to the extra effort.
This was definitely the most intensive Summer Sampler Quilt Along Katie, Lee and I have hosted. We were lucky enough to work with the best designers/technique experts. We had a fantastic group quilting along with us! I’m so grateful for all of you who joined us, or even watched from the sidelines. It was a fantastic summer!
If you would like to make this quilt, you can still purchase the pattern from my partner Lee’s shop. You will get all the patterns to date…which at this point is everything! Happy sewing everyone!
